NTU and Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology have launched a partnership focusing on climate change and sustainable development.

The Indonesia–NTU Singapore Institute of Research for Sustainability and Innovation (INSPIRASI) is a five-year research collaboration between Indonesia’s Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology and founding universities NTU, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung, and Institute Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember.

The programme, which includes the establishment of a centre of excellence, aims to draw researchers, students, and industry partners to produce real-world solutions to climate change mitigation and sustainability.

The three main pillars of INSPIRASI are Renewable Energy, Circular Economy, and Smart Cities. The flagship programme of INSPIRASI, the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator Indonesia (REIDI), will be built on ITS Surabaya campus in collaboration with NTU and is modelled after the REIDS in Semakau, Singapore.

NTU President Professor Ho Teck Hua, in his address at the launch, said INSPIRASI’s vision of becoming a hub of world-class research, education and innovation in sustainability is in strong alignment with NTU’s firm commitment to sustainability.
