NTU seeks collaboration with international partners whose education, research and innovation has global impact, and who share NTU’s vision of nurturing leaders through research and innovative education in diverse disciplines. Through its academic partnerships with leading institutes across Europe, the United States and Asia-pacific, NTU aims to make significant contributions to society to establish opportunities to support student and faculty mobility and develop effective research collaborations.
International collaborative efforts between NTU and overseas educational institutions have led to the development of several dual/joint degree programmes.
NTU offers 21 joint PhD programmes with overseas university partners, as well as joint supervision, PhD exchanges, and joint Master’s programmes with partners in Asia, Europe, North America and other parts of the globe.

NTU offers a wide range of scholarships for local and international students, and those intending to pursue a full-time programme with the University. In addition, there are external scholarships open to applicants wishing to study at NTU, including those sponsored and administered by external parties such as A*STAR, Dr. Goh Keng Swee Scholarship, and VinGroup.
The prestigious NTU–University Scholars Programme (NTU–USP) is highly coveted for its academically rigorous, intellectually-stimulating, and multi-disciplinary curriculum. Its co-curricular enrichment activities supplement the NTU- USP academic curriculum through freshmen overseas study, seminars by distinguished professors, and NTU–USP scholar-led initiatives. The prestigious Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship and the NTU Research Scholarship are open to outstanding international graduates who intend to further their research careers by pursuing a graduate programme at NTU. The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA), in collaboration with A*STAR, is open to applicants in Biomedical Sciences and Physical Science and Engineering.
Scholarship opportunities are also available for the Interdisciplinary Graduate Programme (IGP), a cross-disciplinary research approach adopted to mitigate global challenges. Students will concentrate on 2 or more disciplines in areas of sustainability, healthcare and new media to uncover multidisciplinary solutions and can choose to complete one year of academic research in top universities overseas.

Bringing the spotlight to recent events, NTU and Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) has developed a rapid COVID-19 diagnostic test to reduce the duration needed to determine if a person has the virus.

The Campus for Research Excellence And Technological Enterprise (CREATE) is an international collaborative facility that is home to research centres set up by top universities in Singapore and around the globe. NTU is working collaboratively in the areas of electromobility, infrastructure, carbon reduction, energy, and sustainability with partners from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich (ETH); Technical University of Munich; Hebrew University of Jerusalem; University of California, Berkeley; Shanghai Jiao Tong University; University of Illinois; and Cambridge University.
Together with ETH Zurich, the Future Cities Lab was launched in February 2021. This collaboration focuses on developing and achieving sustainable growth in the urban environment and ecology.
Being a global and innovative university, NTU actively pursues knowledge and creation that will benefit society. NTU has more than 250 industry partners who are engaged in consortia, corporate laboratories, multidisciplinary institutes and with whom NTU has made over 350 technology invention disclosures. Some of the multinational companies include Alibaba, Rolls-Royce, BMW, Continental and WeBank who have established in-house joint laboratories, corporate labs and joint research institutes.

The global COVID-19 pandemic and its economic, social, and psychological aftermath required innovation and adaption at universities around the world. NTU like its peers, provided support to students and staff, adapted learning and teaching, and actively engaged in many aspects of Covid-19 related research.
