Our Commitment
As a leading global university, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) recognises its role in contributing meaningfully to a more sustainable future. Sustainability is embedded in every aspect of our university’s activities, as we strive to drive positive impact through education, research, infrastructure operations, and community engagement initiatives. NTU Singapore also aligns its efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
Our Net Zero Commitment by 2035
NTU Singapore is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2035.
NTU’s previously stated target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035 reflects a decarbonisation-first approach that is aligned with internationally recognised net zero principles, where emissions are reduced as far as practicable before addressing residual emissions. The University prioritises deep reductions in greenhouse gas emissions across campus operations through energy efficiency improvements, renewable energy deployment, and system-level optimisation.
As NTU progresses towards its 2035 target, any residual emissions that cannot be eliminated through operational and technological measures will be addressed through appropriate neutralisation measures.
This approach ensures that emissions are reduced as far as practicable before addressing remaining emissions, consistent with widely accepted definitions of net zero.
NTU will continue to refine its methodologies and disclosures over time, including the scope and treatment of residual emissions, to ensure alignment with evolving best practices.
