Dr Chua Thian Poh

Dr Chua Thian Poh is the founder of Ho Bee Group and served as its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from 1999 to 2021. He was redesignated as Executive Chairman in 2022.

Dr Chua has held several distinguished public appointments, including Singapore’s non-resident ambassador to the Republic of Maldives from 2015 to 2019, member of the Constitutional Commission for the Review of Elected Presidency in 2016, and an alternate member of the Council of Presidential Advisers in 2017, subsequently serving as a full member from 2019 to 2024.

An active community leader, he currently serves as Honorary President of the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations and the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, as well as Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan, where he is also Chairman of the Board of Governors. He is also Honorary Chairman of the Bishan East-Sin Ming Citizens’ Consultative Committee and Ren Ci Hospital. These reflect his longstanding dedication to social service and community development.

Widely recognised for his business leadership and philanthropy, Dr Chua has been a strong supporter of Singapore’s higher education sector, contributing generously to the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and the Singapore Institute of Technology. He was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Letters by NUS in 2019 and appointed a member of NTU in August 2024.

His accolades include the Public Service Star (BBM) in 2004, Justice of the Peace from 2005 to 2020, Businessman of the Year in 2006, President’s Award for Philanthropy (Individual) in 2012, Forbes Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy in 2014, and Distinguished Service Order in 2014.
