Now and Then presented watercolour paintings by Singapore-born artist, Allan Chan Pow Kieng (b.1943). A prolific artist, Allan started sketching and painting with watercolour in the late 1980s. Mostly self-taught and driven by a passion to paint, his decades of full-time employment in the creative and art industry gave him the opportunity to continue his art and develop a unique personal style. Through practice and experimentation, he introduced new elements to his subjects and effectively enhanced his work through extraordinary colour rendition, realistic lines, shapes, forms and textures. In his paintings, Allan explores and captures the subtle calm of urban life and the tranquil nature of Singapore. The realistic style and orderly composition in his work set the mood of thoughtful serenity for his art. Showing the artist's early and recent works, the exhibition was presented in two parts. The first part showcased selected paintings of Singapore's charming urban landscape (8 January – 26 January 2014) and the second part showcased the tranquil nature scenes of Singapore (27 January – 14 February 2014).
