Introduction

The course aims to develop an understanding of Limit State Design as applied to structural steel members and connections based on the latest Eurocode 3- Design of steel structures with Singapore Annexes.

This course is credit-bearing (3AU) and stackable to:
  • Specialist Certificate in Civil Infrastructure (12 AU)
  • Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (136 AU)

This course will cover the following areas:
1. Introduction to students the basic principles of reading steel structural plans.
2. Elevations and sectional views, distribute loadings on structures based on architecture plans.
3. Determine factored loads for design.
4. Design structural steel beams and columns.
5. Design bolted and welded connections.
6. Produce sketches for production drawings.
This Specialist Certificate will enable NTU's Environmental Engineering graduates to apply for registration as Professional Engineers (Civil), if other requirements (4 years of relevant practical experience in engineering, FEE & PPEE examinations, interview) are also fulfilled.
