Enhancing Adult Education Through PILATE: Practical Introduction to Learning for Adult Trainers and Educators provides a collegial learning environment for CET instructors to strengthen their understanding of learning and teaching across diverse learner profiles and professional contexts.
Participants design purposeful learning outcomes and apply constructive alignment to ensure coherence between outcomes, learning activities, and assessment. Through practice-based discussion, peer exchange, and reflection grounded in their own teaching settings, participants develop the capacity to make responsive instructional decisions, facilitate meaningful learning interactions, and continuously refine their approaches in evolving CET environments.
PILATE supports Staff Continuous Learning for CET instructors by strengthening teaching effectiveness through Learning Needs Analysis, Data Collection and Analysis, and strategic instructional improvement. It focuses on Content Development and Strategy to design aligned learning outcomes, activities, and assessments, while enhancing Trainer and Assessor Development Management through reflection, evidence-based evaluation, and continuous improvement across CET settings. CASL that will be acquired: Staff Continuous Learning, Learning Needs Analysis, Data Collection and Analysis and Trainer and Assessor Development Management.

Sophia Tan (Dr)
With over 20 years of work experience in higher education settings overseas and in Singapore, she has deepened her knowledge in the field of teaching and learning. Prior to joining CTLP, Sophia served as a professor of Educational Technology, shaping the minds of pre-service teachers. Additionally, she has provided consulting services to schools and administrators and conducted workshops and seminars to support their professional development. Sophia holds a PhD in Learning, Technology, and Culture, and is passionate about sharing her love for teaching and scholarship with faculty and students alike.
Jeanette Choy
Jeanette has more than 15 years of teaching, education research and academic development experience within the tertiary and adult education sector. This experience includes conducting workshops for educators in various higher education settings and providing consultations and support on teaching and learning research studies. Jeanette holds a Master of Arts (Instructional Design and Technology) and an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA). She strongly believes that evidence-based practice and research can be used to underpin, inform and guide teaching and faculty development activities. Her previous research involves the study of students’ learning processes, blended learning, and learning communities for academic development.
Janice Tay
Janice is a Senior Lecturer at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. She coordinates and co‑developed NTU’s interdisciplinary course on Health and Wellbeing. With over three decades of teaching experience across both educational and clinical settings, she has also taught at various institutes of higher learning and consulted for multinational companies as well as national and non‑governmental organisations. Janice is committed to continually refining her teaching methods and pedagogy and actively seeks innovative ways to engage students more deeply in their learning.
Norman New Chin Guan
Norman is a lifelong educator who has extensive experience working with young professionals and talent. Currently a senior lecturer at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, he teaches and coordinates a course on wellbeing that is taken by 6000 undergraduates every year. Prior to NTU, Norman developed modules and coached students on workplace readiness in the National University of Singapore. Apart from the education sector, he also spent some time in the corporate world doing leadership training and coaching for working professionals. His personable and experiential style of facilitation makes him a well-regarded and sought-after facilitator and coach.
Ng Soh Fong
Soh Fong has over 20 years of professional experience in instructional design, training, and educational media production in both government and corporate sectors. She is passionate about designing and delivering outcome-oriented and learner-centred training. She believes in creating a supportive learning environment that encourages active participation and meaningful exchange of ideas. Beyond her professional work, Soh Fong volunteers with faith-based organisations, focusing on children’s education and supporting families with children who have special needs. Soh Fong holds a Masters of Science in Instructional Design, Diploma in Adult and Continuing Education (DACE) and an Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA).
