The Psychology of Physical Activity explores how psychology relates to physical activity behaviours. Physical inactivity is a major global health issue. Understanding how to measure and promote physical activity is crucial for improving both physical and mental health.
This course is aimed at physical educators, sports coaches, exercise specialists, and healthcare professionals in healthcare, sports, and fitness. This course will expose learners to the measurements of physical activity, and they will be able to explain physical activity correlates and the theories, as well as how physical activity causes behavioural change. The course will also cover the benefits of physical activity to psychological health. Learners will also work on data acquisition, processing and interpretation and be exposed to research approaches in physical activity psychology.
In Singapore, Healthier SG is a national initiative led by the Ministry of Health (MOH) that focuses on preventive health. Learners can apply what they learn in this course to help the public or their clients achieve health goals at their workplaces. They can also support others in taking proactive steps to manage their health, prevent chronic diseases, and adopt healthier lifestyles.
