Introduction

This hands-on STEM course empowers participants to explore emerging skills in renewable energy and water sustainability. Educators will engage in practical activities involving water electrolyser and water purification, learning to identify real-world problems, research solutions, and build prototypes. Through guided experimentation and iterative design, participants develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills while understanding sustainable technologies.

By the end of the course, educators will be equipped to apply STEM principles in meaningful ways, inspiring learners to tackle energy and water challenges with creativity and scientific rigor.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand core concepts of renewable energy and water sustainability, with emphasis on emerging skills in green technology and sustainable practices.
2. Apply STEM principles to analyse real-world challenges in energy generation and water purification.
3. Design and prototype practical solutions through iterative design, fostering creativity and innovation in STEM education.
4. Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to evaluate and optimize energy and water sustainability strategies.
5. Integrate sustainable STEM applications into teaching practice, empowering learners to address global challenges with scientific rigor and innovation.

Edison Ang Huixiang

Dr. Edison H. Ang possesses a broad background and a diverse skill set within the field of materials science and engineering. He completed his undergraduate studies at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, earning his B.S. degrees in 2012. In 2017, Dr. Ang obtained his Ph.D. from the same institution. Following this, he gained additional experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National University of Singapore from 2016 to 2017. Subsequently, he returned to Nanyang Technological University, where he worked as a Research Fellow from 2017 to 2019. In mid-2018, he also took on a Visiting Scholar role at the Technical University of Munich in Germany. Currently, Dr. Edison H. Ang holds the position of Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Education/Nanyang Technological University. His active involvement in academia is demonstrated by his participation in various professional memberships and editorial responsibilities. He serves as an Early Career Researchers Committee for Energy & Environmental Materials, Early Career Editorial Board Member for the Chemical Engineering Journal and holds the role of Youth Editorial Board Member of Carbon Energy and eScience, Young Editorial Board Member for the eScience, Journal of Energy Chemistry and Collagen and Leather, Youth Editorial Board Member of Carbon Neutrality, Youth Editorial Board Member of Frontiers in Energy, and Early Career Advisory Board for the Materials Horizons. Additionally, he is associated with Associate Editorial Board positions for Frontiers in Electronic Materials, Frontiers in Chemistry, and Frontiers in Environmental Chemistry.
