The Business Analytics for Strategic Decisions programme is designed for middle to senior-level executives who need to understand how business analytics can create value for their organisations.

Through this programme, you will:

  • Gain practical insights on how to build and leverage a business analytics team.

  • Understand the process of developing a strong business analytics case, from exploration of the data context to obtaining the explanatory or predictive results.

  • Learn to investigate existing operational data and apply business analytics using real-life business data.
  • Learn to ask the right questions and draw inferences from the data using appropriate tools.

  • Examine how data modelling techniques can provide useful predictions, such as pricing and profitability forecasts and consumer trend analysis.

This programme also counts towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours under the Institute of Adult Learning (IAL)'s Training and Adult Educator Professional Pathway (TAEPP).

The two-day programme will be conducted using an interactive seminar-style approach, supported by relevant case studies, group breakout sessions and practice cases. You will have hands-on experience on applying analytics tools to solve business related issues.

Day 1:
Embedding Business Analytics into Corporate Strategy

  • Understand what business analytics entails

  • Learn to lead, assess and manage data analytics projects

  • Learn to ask the right questions and identify key issues to be addressed when developing a business analytics plan

  • Identify the right resources and competencies within an organisation

Day 2:
Converting Data into Actionable Insights

  • Organize and extract value from data collected from different sources to address business problems

  • Understand the development of explanatory and predictive analytics models (with hands-on exercises)

  • Get exposed to various classes of data modelling techniques and draw inferences from the data and make predictions by using the appropriate tools.

  • Draw insights from analytics reports and identify trends and business opportunities


Laptop required during session: Please note that participants are required to bring their own laptop or MacBook with Microsoft Excel for this practical, hands-on course.

Goh Kim Huat

Kim Huat is the Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and Senior Editor for the Journal of the Association for Information Systems. He received his Ph.D. in business administration with a specialization in economics and information systems from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. His research interests using analytics and economic theories to model human behaviour in healthcare and technology-mediated settings and evaluating health systems implementation. He has worked with various organizations such as the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (United States), Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, National University Health System, Rockwell Automation, Telenor (Norway), and Singapore Exchange in executive training, research, and business analytics related projects. Since 2018, he has been the lead Principle Investigator for various competitive grants (e.g. SSRTG, MOE Tier 2, NRF) with a total amount exceeding S$3.5 million, and Co-investigator/ Co-PI for grants totaling S$9.5 million. He has published in top Nature Index and Financial Times ranked journals such as Nature Communications, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of Consumer Psychology, and Human Resource Management Journal. He was awarded the Research Excellence Award by NBS in 2013 and 2022, and ranked 16th globally in terms of research productivity from 2013 to 2015 by the Associate of Information Systems based on the number of publications in top information systems journals. He teaches business analytics, trading analytics, and quantitative methods at the graduate and executive levels. NBS awarded him the Teaching Excellence Award in 2010, 2013, and 2016. He was also voted Teacher of the Year in 2015 & 2021 for the MSc (Marketing and Consumer Insight) graduate program, Teacher of the Year in 2023 for the MSc (Accountancy) and Nanyang Business School Teacher of the Year (Business) in 2016 & 2021. In 2017 and 2018, he won the University-wide Nanyang Education Award, and in 2018 he was conferred as a lifelong Fellow of NTU’s Teaching Excellence Academy. Kim Huat was the former Chair of the curriculum committee for the Business Analytics degree program at NBS and has earlier led and implemented the curriculum design for the new Business Analytics degree program at Nanyang Business School.
