Lim Tze Peng is acclaimed for his unique style of ink painting, which boasts rich brushwork and tonal details, often seen as a representation of the Nanyang Style in the ink medium. One of Lim's favourite muses is the iconic Singapore River, painting its vibrant and rustic charm countless times with each portrayal capturing a different facet of its allure.
Singapore River revisits a familiar theme of the long lost cityscape of the riverside. This rendition of Singapore River is almost twice as big as his previous versions, with less attention paid to details and more expressive brushwork. Although not a new subject matter, Llim Tze Peng manages to provide a fresh visual experience.
This artwork was donated by Lim Tze Peng to the NTU Arts & Heritage Museum during the museum's launch on 20 October 2008. Inroads: Lim Tze Peng's New Ink Work was the museum's inaugural exhibition.
