Offering NRP as H3 Science Research

Q1 Who can opt to offer NRP as H3 Science Research?
JC 1 students who will be taking the GCE A-Level Examinations in JC 2 can opt to offer their NRP project as H3 Science Research.
Q2 Which projects can be offered as H3 Science Research?
Only projects that fall under the Engineering and Sciences categories in the NRP can be offered as H3 Science Research projects. This is subject to the endorsement from the student's school as well as the approval of the NRP Supervisor.

Q3  When will I have to indicate my intention to offer my project as H3 Science Research?
Students are to indicate their decision to offer their project as H3 Science Research at the point of application for the NRP in February when application opens.
Offers for H3 Science Research will however depend on the recommendations made by your school. If your school has recommended you for NRP Enrichment only, we will make you an offer for NRP Enrichment only even if you have indicated that you wish to offer your project as H3 Science Research.
Q4  I have indicated in the application form that I want to offer the project as H3 Science Research. Will I be offered an H3 Science Research project eventually?
NTU will base all offers primarily on the recommendations made by your School. If your school has recommended you for NRP Enrichment only, we will make you an offer for NRP Enrichment only even if you have indicated that you wish to offer your project as H3 Science Research.
However, there are two considerations which can supersede your school's recommendations for your to offer as project as H3 Science Research:
a)   If the project clearly articulates upfront that pairwork is a requirement - this would automatically mean that the project cannot be converted to H3 Science Research as the latter necessitates that students work on their project alone;
b) If the project Supervisor does not wish to offer his/her project as H3 Science Research.
Once an offer for NRP Enrichment has been made, you will NOT BE ALLOWED to convert your project to H3 Science Research.
Q5  I have been offered a project as NRP Enrichment but wish to work on the project as a H3 Science Research. Can I submit an appeal?
No. NTU would have made an offer to you with due consideration to your School's recommendation as well as conditions (a) and (b) listed in Q4.
If the offer has been for NRP Enrichment, this would likely have been because of one or all of the following reasons:
1) Your School has 'Recommended' or 'Highly Recommended' you for NRP Enrichment only;
2) The project already specifies that pairwork is a requirement, which automatically means that the project cannot be converted to H3 Science Research which necessitates individual work;
3) The Supervisor is of the opinion that you are better suited to work on the project as NRP Enrichment only.
Students who have been offered NRP Enrichment CANNOT appeal to have their projects converted to H3 Science Research.
Q6  Can I convert my NRP Enrichment project to H3 Science Research project later on if I did not indicate my intention at the point of application?
No. If you have not indicated your intention to offer your NRP project as H3 Science Research at the point of application, and if you have only been recommended for and have been made an offer for NRP Enrichment, you will NOT BE ALLOWED to convert your project to H3 Science Research.
Q7  When will the confirmation to offer my NRP project as H3 Science Research take place?
You will be asked to confirm your decision to confirm your intention to offer your project as H3 Science Research in July. As H3 Science Research is an examinable A-Level subject penalties will apply should you change your mind after confirming your decision. The H3 Science Research Withdrawal Period and the associated penalties will be communicated to you during the confirmation exercise.
Q8  Can I change my mind after I accept the confirmation of the offer?
Students who withdraw from H3 Science Research after the Withdrawal Period will forfeit the application fee of $60. You will also have an 'Absent' grade reflected on your A-Level certificate. You may opt to continue with your project under NRP Enrichment even after having withdrawn from H3 Science Research.
Q9  When will I know my results for H3 Science Research?
Students who opt to do H3 Science Research will be awarded a grade certified by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB). The H3 Science Research grade will only be made known during the release of GCE A-Level results the year following your graduation from JC.
