ACSEL Conference 2025 - Day 1 on 12 Nov 2025
Advancing the management of environmental health and safety in laboratories. This was on the minds of the attendees of the 12th Asian Conference on Safety & Education in Laboratory (ACSEL). ACSEL is an annual conference organised by leading universities in Asia. It provides a platform for scientists, engineers, researchers, and professionals to discuss the management and education of environmental health and safety. NTU saw participants presenting posters highlighting initiatives in digitization and the integration of artificial intelligence to enhance health and safety processes.
Mr Cezanne Santos Cabulay is the Safety Officer at NTI NTU Corporate Laboratory. His poster introduces a groundbreaking lab safety management system that digitizes and centralises data across the entire institute. It has the potential to integrate multiple modules of data such as chemical inventory management, and can and multi-government agency support. This management system aligns well with Singapore's strategic direction in AI and Smart Nation initiatives and is scalable to all universities, polytechnics, and research facilities.
Mr Daniel Foong is the Safety Officer at Temasek Laboratories@NTU. His poster highlights the implementation of a digitized chemical inventory management system. The implementation of QR code labelling improves chemical traceability and efficiency in laboratory inventory management. Linked to a digital system, each QR code provides instant access to safety data, storage details, and usage logs. This automation streamlines audits, minimizes errors, supports compliance, and enhances safe handling and emergency response.
We would like to extend our greatest gratitude for Mr Cabulay and Mr Foong’s contribution to this year’s ASCEL conference.
