Pedagogical Applications
We design and pilot, with faculty, the tools that bring NTU's signature pedagogy into the classroom, and we study what they change for students.
What we do
AI learning assistants grounded in the course. We build AI learning assistants that answer from a course's own materials and follow the lecturer's approach. Since 2023 they have been piloted in courses across nine Schools, and our evaluation found measurable learning gains and examined how students engage with them. Support for these assistants is now moving to the University's EdTech team as a standard service, and we continue to run faculty workshops and help lecturers customise them. Read the NALA case study.
Collaborative knowledge building. Knowledge building, in which students work together to develop and improve ideas, is one of the strands of NTU's signature pedagogy. We develop and support a platform for it, which is in use in faculty courses this semester, and introduce it to staff through workshops run with the Centre for Teaching, Learning & Pedagogy and NIE.
Assessment that adapts to the learner. We are piloting adaptive testing that adjusts to where a student is, available to faculty who want to trial it.
How we work with faculty
- Built with faculty, not for them. Tools are piloted course by course with the teaching team.
- Most of the value is in customisation. We run workshops and consultations so lecturers can adapt a tool to their course.
