Oliver Tonby
Mr Oliver Tonby is an experienced global leader with almost 30 years at McKinsey & Company. He has held several senior leadership positions within the Firm, most notably as Chairman of McKinsey & Company in Asia, overseeing the firm’s work across the region. He has led major engagements with governments, multinational corporations, investors and regional industry leaders.
Oliver is a Norwegian national, based in Singapore since 2009. He has had multiple global postings including in Malaysia 2003-9, Silicon Valley 2000-01, Norway 1997-2003.
He has built a distinguished career advising clients in areas such as strategy and portfolio; operations, technology and digital transformations; sustainability and energy transition; governance and organizational renewal. He previously served as the Managing Partner for Southeast Asia, as well as the leader of the Global Energy and Materials practice in Asia. He is recognized for his thought-leadership in the region. He has been a key contributor to McKinsey’s Future of Asia series, offering insights on Asia’s trajectory.
Oliver has been a board member for McKinsey; an advisory board member of the Ocean Hub (an NGO focused on Maritime data); a member of INSEAD’s international advisory committee; as well as a long time member of the Future Economy Committee in Singapore. He is a recipient of Singapore’s Public Service medal.
He holds an MBA with Distinction from INSEAD and an MSc in Biochemical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Prior to McKinsey, he held technical and engineering roles with Shell International and Norsk Hydro.
