Three NTU Singapore scientists elected Fellows of the Singapore National Academy of Science

Three scientists from NTU Singapore have been elected Fellows of the Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS) – the Academy's highest scientific honour – in recognition of pioneering work that has advanced knowledge in their fields and delivered lasting benefits to society.

The NTU Fellows are President and Distinguished University Professor Ho Teck Hua, whose work has advanced AI and decision science; Senior Vice President (Health & Life Sciences), Dean of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and Distinguished University Professor Joseph Sung, a leader in health and life sciences; and Professor Pu Kanyi, Associate Dean (Research) at the College of Engineering, whose research sits at the interface of chemistry, imaging and medicine.

They form the majority of the 2026 cohort of four Fellows, whose collective research spans artificial intelligence (AI), health sciences, biomedical engineering, and the physics of graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) materials. The fourth Fellow is Professor Sir Konstantin Novoselov of the National University of Singapore.

The Fellows were formally inducted at the SNAS Fellowship Conferment Ceremony, held as part of the Academy's 50th anniversary celebrations. Their election brings the total number of SNAS Fellows to 66.

On his election, Prof Ho said: “I admire the Academy's mission to promote and disseminate scientific knowledge to students and the public, and its service in recognising local scientific talent and showcasing them on the world stage. I look forward to contributing to the Academy in the years to come.”

Reflecting on the role of science in society, Prof Sung said: “Science without humanity is blind; humanity without science is lame.”

Prof Pu said: “It is a great honour to be elected a Fellow of the Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS). I look forward to contributing to its mission of advancing science through my work at the interface of chemistry, imaging, and medicine.”

Established in 1976, SNAS is an independent body that advances local science and technology while representing the scientific community across research, education, and outreach.

With three of its scientists among the new Fellows, NTU adds to a growing community of researchers recognised by the Academy as it marks 50 years of championing science in Singapore.
