A commitment to advancing energy research and innovation

NTU Singapore, the National University of Singapore and ExxonMobil signed a Singapore Energy Consortium (SEC) membership agreement on 6 October 2023, ahead of the Singapore Energy Centre (SgEC) taking a new form as the Singapore Energy Consortium (SEC) with effect from 1 November 2023.

The agreement for this one-year commitment was signed at a ceremony held at NTU Singapore, by NTU Vice President (Industry) Prof Lam Khin YongExxonMobil Technology and Engineering Company Vice President (Research) Dr Nick Clausi, and NUS Deputy President (Research and Technology) Professor Liu Bin (L-R, as pictured above). This collaboration also symbolises the commitment of SEC and its first Tier 1 member, ExxonMobil, in advancing energy research and innovation in Singapore.

The SgEC was founded in 2018 by NTU Singapore, NUS, and ExxonMobil was the first founding member. The Centre aimed to create a framework for a long-term partnership between the universities and the industry on both technological and socioeconomic issues in sustainable energy development.

The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), which joined the SgEC in 2021, was represented by Dr. Ng Wai Kiong, Acting Executive Director of A*STAR’s Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (ISCE2) at the ceremony, emphasizing the event's significance within the energy research community.

The SEC looks forward to leveraging the collective expertise of its member institutions and industry partners to address the complex challenges in the energy sector and drive sustainable solutions.
