NTU Haze Response Guidelines

Please keep an eye out for NTU circulars advising on the latest recommendations on haze response measures.

1. Will classes or work move online because of the haze?

Not at present. Classes and work continue on campus. NTU will decide on any change based on the 24-hour PSI forecast and Ministry of Health advisories. Any change will be announced by email from the Office of Health and Safety.

2. Will campus activities and events being held outdoors be cancelled due to the haze?
Outdoor activities will continue unless the 24-hour PSI goes above 200 or national guidance changes. If you are unsure whether your activity or event should proceed, check with the Student Affairs Office (for students) or Office of Health and Safety (for staff).

3. Why are sports facilities closed when the PSI exceeds 200?
Outdoor and non-air-conditioned sports facilities close when the 24-hour PSI is above 200, in line with Sport Singapore guidelines, to support the health and well-being of everyone.

4. In view of the haze, will NTU be distributing N95 masks to all Schools, Departments and Centres?
NTU will distribute N95 masks to employees whose work keep critical University operations and services running. These include:

  • Food and beverage services
  • Facilities & housing management
  • Security & emergency response service

5. What should I do if I feel unwell?
Please seek medical attention at the NTU Campus Clinic if you feel unwell, especially if you have breathing difficulties or worsening symptoms. In an emergency, call 995.

6. I have a heart or lung condition, or I am pregnant. What should I do?

Avoid or minimise outdoor activity when the 24-hour PSI is above 200. Keep any medication you need with you. Check with your doctor before using an N95 mask. Staff who need work adjustments should speak to their supervisor. Students should contact their school office or course coordinator.

1) Download the myENVapp for hourly updates of the 24-hour PSI and PM2.5 readings.

2) For the latest haze information, visit the NEA’s Haze website, Ministry of Health’s Haze page or the NTU Safety & Health website.

3) Read the NTU Circular on Haze and Recommended Guidelines for Haze Response for what to do as the haze develops and how campus operations will be affected.
