New Chair Professorship with $6 million endowment from Temasek
NTU Singapore is establishing a new Chair Professorship with a $6 million endowment from state investment firm Temasek.
Funded by Temasek, the Fusion Chair Professorship aims to support new research programmes and train skilled manpower to advance relevant technologies in the field of magnetic fusion for the development of clean energy.
Seen as a potential source of clean energy among scientists, fusion refers to the process by which the sun and other stars generate light and heat.
The reaction occurs when two smaller, lighter nuclei merge together to form a single heavier nucleus, releasing energy. If fusion can be achieved on earth and become commercially viable, it will provide a steady source of clean and sustainable energy.
The new Fusion Chair Professorship was announced on Wednesday, 29 Sep, at Temasek’s annual sustainability event, Ecosperity Week, by Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies Heng Swee Keat.
