Application of Student's Pass

All full-time international students must hold a valid Student's Pass issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore for their studies in NTU.

Dependant's Pass (DP) holder who wish to study in NTU has to apply for a Student's Pass but may be issued Letter of Consent (LOC) by ICA to study in NTU. Dependant Pass holder has to state his/her intention to study in the remarks column in the e-Form (ICA SOLAR system).

New application for a Student's Pass must be submitted at least 1 month, but not more than 2 months before the commencement of the course through ICA's Student's Pass Online Application and Registration (SOLAR) system.

1. Registration for a Student's Pass

Prior to your Student Pass submission to ICA, NTU will need to register your particulars through the  ICA SOLAR system with the following details:

  • Your name, date of birth, gender, and nationality (as appear in your travel document)
  • Course details, course commencement and course end dates
  • SOLAR application reference number 

2. Submission of eForm 16 

 

Once NTU has successfully registered your information, you will be informed of the registration number to login to the SOLAR system to submit the eForm 16.
Please ensure the following when submitting eForm 16 (ICA SOLAR system):

  • All your particulars are correct in the eForm 16. If there is any discrepancy, please inform us through Ask One Stop.
  • NRIC/FIN number of your parents if they are Singaporeans or foreigners working or living in Singapore.
  • A Singapore address and contact details (Kindly leave it blank if there is no local address/contact details)
  • Your email address
  • Upon submission of the e Form 16 through Solar, print a copy of the Form 16 for verification of information and endorsement to complete the formalities of the Student Pass, if approved.

 Undergraduate students can access to the Student's Pass – Undergraduate Acceptance Link after obtaining your matriculation number.

3. Uploading of Documents upon request, as indicated in the Solar system.


4.    Processing Fee and Time

ICA will process your application for a Student's Pass only after you have paid a non-refundable processing fee of $30 within 7 days upon submission of your eForm 16 with complete documents, or the application will be withdrawn. ICA SOLAR system only accepts payment via credit/debit card and internet banking only.

ICA processing time:

  • Application without Visa - 5 working days
  • Application with Visa - 10 working days

*Processing time may take longer on case-by-case basis subjected to ICA’s approval.

5. In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter

You may check your Student Pass application status via ICA SOLAR system. If approved, you may print the outcome letter of your Student's Pass.


Your visa will be incorporated in the IPA letter if you require visa. You need not apply separately and may enter Singapore with the IPA letter at the Singapore checkpoints.

Based on current border control measures, all Student's Pass holders and those who have been granted IPA must obtain entry approval before travelling to Singapore. You must submit your applications for entry approval through the SafeTravel online portal. You may refer to the Guide to Applying for Entry Approval when submitting the application.

 

6. Medical Examination

The offer of admission to NTU that you received is conditional upon the issuance of a Student's Pass by ICA. If the period of your studies at NTU is 6 months or more, you are required to pass a medical examination conducted at the Fullerton Health @ NTU before you can be issued with this pass. The examination will include tests for the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV) and Tuberculosis.

Upon satisfactory completion of the medical examination, the Fullerton Health @ NTU will issue you with a medical report which you need to submit during the completion of the Student's Pass formalities with ICA in Singapore.

 

You will be denied admission and must return home at your own expense if you fail the medical examination.

Please refer to your letter of offer (for graduate students) and 'Acceptance Link' (for undergraduate students) for the instructions to book your medical examination at the Fullerton Health @ NTU.

 

7. Completion of formalities (COF) for Student's Pass in Singapore:

  • Access ICA SOLAR system
  • Select "View Application Status"
  • Upload Completed medical examination report (if applicable) & terms and condition of Student's Pass
  • Submit COF documents for ICA's processing
  • Once ICA approves the documents, the applicant would be notified to make payment (within 7 days) as follow.

* If payment not made within the deadline, ICA will cancel your application. You will then need to repeat the application process again*

8. Issuance of Student's Pass 

Please note that the completion of Student's Pass formalities with ICA is strictly by e-appointment only at ICA building within the validity of the Social Visit Pass/expiry date of the IPA letter, whichever is earlier. 

You will need to make an e-appointment with ICA and be present in person (with required documents listed in your IPA letter) at the Student's Pass unit, 4th floor, ICA Building (next to Lavender MRT station to complete the formalities with ICA in order to be issued with your Student's Pass.

The applicant must have a valid immigration pass at all times. If the e-appointment date is beyond the validity of social visit pass, please consult ICA for advice on extension, refer to ICA website. Overstaying is a punishable offence under the Immigration Act.
