The Master of Teaching (MTeach) is a practice-oriented programme designed for professionals across the wide range of education and education-related contexts, who are committed to sharpen their professional expertise in delivering high quality teaching to diverse learners of today through the bridging of practice and research.
The MTeach programme will be of great value to educators in educational institutions from pre-schools to universities in both public and private settings. It seeks to empower educators through the demonstration of advanced knowledge in teaching and research into teaching, and in so doing, provide appropriate responses to emerging complex real world challenges pertaining to teaching and learning. Graduates of the MTeach programme will set new standards of teaching excellence, and lead pedagogical transformations in their respective educational settings and communities.

You will acquire the following competencies:
Developing Positive Psychology-based solutions to support learners’ holistic learning and well-being,
Developing theoretically and practically useful conceptions of curriculum and curriculum designing,
Designing a coherent set of assessment practices that enhances the efficacious use of AfL compatible sensitive to social-cultural settings,
Designing and developing learning experiences with digital media technologies and associated pedagogies,
Designing and developing lesson plans and assessment tasks sensitive to diverse learners’ needs that reflect sound pedagogical content knowledge for effective instruction,
Conducting classroom inquiry through collaborative professional relationships, and
Enacting important professional decision-making skills based on evidence from reflective-practice and inquiry.
- A good bachelor’s degree, or a relevant NTU FlexiMasters with good grades
- At least one year of teaching experience in an institute of education

There is generally only one intake for this programme, in January. You are advised to visit the website and look out for NIE’s announcements in May / June to confirm if the programme will be open for application at any particular intake.
Applicants who are currently working with sponsors, donors or financial institutions to fund their studies, are encouraged to submit their applications early to NIE so as not to miss out on our application period.

Effective from January 2021 intake
The coursework for this programme comprises 6 MTeach courses plus either:
- a dissertation or
- two additional courses (one Open Elective and MTC907 Integrative Project)
MTC907 Integrative Project is open only for applicants pursuing the degree totally by coursework.

MTC901 Nurturing Learners and Learning (4 AUs) 2) The science of positive psychology to encourage and support schools and individuals to flourish. Participants will be introduced to the concept of wellbeing and its constituent components, with specific focus on Character Strengths and Mindfulness. Hence, participants will have the opportunity to develop and practice the skills, knowledge and strategies needed to enhance their students, children's or employees well-being, while developing their character strengths and mindfulness. 3) The concept of motivation and the various approaches to motivational studies, namely the behaviourist, humanistic, cognitivist and socio-cultural perspectives. They will explore the factors influencing learner motivation, and the reasons why some learners are more motivated than others. Finally, they will have the opportunity to develop and apply the skills, knowledge and strategies needed to enhance their students, childrens or employees motivation to learn. |
MTC902 Designing Curriculum: Theory and Practice (4 AUs) |
MTC903 Assessment for Learning: Theory and Practice (4 AUs) This course also aims to equip participants with an understanding of the effects of assessment design and practice on participants learning in a curriculum, and how choice of assessment methods, assessment task design, classroom formative assessment and feedback practice may be situated for reiterative (constructive) alignment of assessment, curriculum and pedagogy. Participants will learn and apply assessment for learning pedagogies to revise/develop an assessment design in a complete unit lesson plan in ways that ultimately enhance their students construction of learning. |
MTC904 Facilitating Learning in the Digital Age (4 AUs) |
MTC905 Understanding and Developing Pedagogical Content Knowledge (4 AUs) In the context of the programme, this course will bring together the interconnections of learning of the four courses: curriculum designing, assessment for learning, and learning using technology. This course allows participants to understand the concepts of PCK, and identify and explore a topic within the curriculum that are of key interest and relevance in their respective subject disciplines. For each created topic, the constituent knowledge domains of curricular knowledge, knowledge of representations i.e. teaching strategies for teaching the topic, and knowledge of student conceptions and assessment will be included. |
