Two Decades and Beyond: Growing Education Research in Singapore

CRPP 20th anniversary report

Singapore’s education research landscape has grown into a vibrant ecosystem, anchored by the National Institute of Education and its specialised research centres. Here’s to Two Decades Strong of Pioneering Work

Founded in 2002, CRPP explores how teaching, learning, and assessment can be reimagined to better serve students and educators. Its work documents and analyses classroom practices, informs national curriculum reforms, and provides research-based insights to the Ministry of Education. The outcomes continue to encourage partnerships with teachers and schools, ensuring that research findings are transformed into practical solutions that can be readily applied in classrooms. These shape innovative, evidence-informed approaches that continue to strengthen education for the future.

This publication celebrates these achievements while providing a forward-looking perspective on how Singapore’s education research can continue to support teachers, learners, and the system. It maps out how the Centre’s research agenda, vision and people continue to drive research that informs pedagogy, curriculum innovations, and teacher development. The insights gathered from the Centre and from other NIE research centres guide emerging priorities, reshape thinking, and build on 21st century competencies, lifelong learning and educational equity.

As part of the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice's (CRPP) 20th Anniversary celebration in 2022, this is a report about the Centre and more.
