Keynote Speaker

Invited Speaker

PhD Rob Gray
Associate Professor
Arizona State University

Host and producer of The Perception & Action Podcast, exploring how psychological research can be applied to improving performance, accelerating skill acquisition and designing new technologies Author of "How We Learn to Move" and "Learning to be an Ecological Coach".

Applying Ecological Dynamics Theory in Sport: From the Lab to the Field

In this presentation, I will discuss my experiences as a skill acquisition researcher and an applied practitioner in professional sports. What are the major challenges and opportunities? How can we best translate research findings and theory into effective practice design (e.g., “practicing the wrong way”, Gray 2025)?  How can we get buy-in from both athletes and coaches? How can we track progress and scale constraints over time to keep challenging the athlete at the optimal level? How can performance analytics and technologies like markerless motion capture support practice design? How can we use a “converging constraints” approach such that different practice activities support the same goal? How can application inform research?

Prof Alicia Goodwill

PhD Alicia Goodwill

Assistant Professor, National Institute of Education

Nanyang Technological University

Alicia's research employs neurophysiological techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to study the functional brain adaptations that underpin motor and cognitive performance following a variety of interventions

Mapping the brain in motion: neurophysiological approaches to motor performance

What happens in the brain when we learn, refine, or master a movement?
In this presentation, I will introduce how neurophysiological tools - such as functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) - can expand our understanding of the brain’s role in motor skill acquisition and performance. Drawing from my research on exercise-induced brain adaptations, I will share findings showing how different forms of exercise and motor skill practice can enhance brain activity and plasticity. I will also discuss the challenges of translating laboratory-based findings to real-world movement contexts and reflect on how these insights can complement existing approaches in coaching and sport science to support more individualised and evidence-informed training strategies.

There will be only Oral presentations, participants who feel their project does not necessitate a full presentation can opt for a short oral communication of 5 minutes. The short presentation slots will be schedule similarly as a Poster session, but with presenters presenting to all the audience and will be followed by the lunch break for further discussion.

General

Please check the time and room of your presentation in the daily programme, and check your emails, as there might have been some last-minute changes.

All presentations must be prepared and delivered in English.

All presenters are asked to respect the duration of presentations as follows:

- For Full Oral presentations: 10 minutes presentation and 2 minutes for discussion

- For Short Oral presentations: 5 minutes presentations (discussion only if there is time or during the following break)

Technical requirements (for both Full and Short communications):

Slide format

  • MS PowerPoint, landscape format, 16:9 HD presentations (1080p).

  • Embedded videos in power point for optimal compatibility (do not forget to embed your fonts and to bring your video files separately, as back-up solution).

  • The use of personal laptops for presentation is allowed.

Oral Presentation Upload:

There will be no need to upload your presentation in advance. ==> Please approach the stage during the break before your presentation session, to provide your slide deck or to check the connection with your laptop

  • You can simply bring your presentation in a USB stick or external hard drive.

  • Or you can use your own laptop, that you can connect via HDMI to the projector
