CPE0003 Sport Nutrition For Better Performance: Following Facts Not Fads
How much protein do you need to build muscle? What and when should you be drinking your runs? This course will help answer these and other basic questions you have about sport nutrition and performance. It will provide you with a foundation of knowledge based on the scientific evidence available and dispel pseudoscience and myth. Topics covered will include energy provision during exercise, protein intake for muscle building, use of supplements and hydration for exercise.
By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Determine how much carbohydrate is needed for energy supply in exercise
- Estimate the amount of protein needed for muscle building
- Highlight important micronutrients to consider for exercise training
- Appraise the use of popular supplements for training and performance
- Design a good hydration strategy for your exercise
The course will cover the following areas:
- Introduction to nutrients
- Carbohydrates for energy
- Protein intake: how much and when
- Important micronutrients
- Supplements for performance
- Drinking strategies
Associate Professor Stephen Burns is the Associate Dean for Programme & Student Development at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He obtained his PhD in Exercise Physiology at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom and subsequently worked at the University of Texas at El Paso and in the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh before coming to Singapore. His major research interests include low energy availability in athletes and examining how nutritional supplements can promote exercise performance. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine Association Singapore, and Professionals in Nutrition for Exercise and Sports. He is as an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism and for the Journal of Exercise Science & Fitness and is a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Obesity.

Learners who have successfully completed the course may claim 2 Continuing Coach Education (CCE) hours to meet the CCE hours requirement.
Participant must achieve a minimum of 75% attendance and pass the assessment. Participant will be issued the Certificate of Completion upon fulfilling both attendance and assessment criteria.
