CNS0001 Introduction to STEM Education (STEM教育简介)

This course provides introductory ideas to STEM education. Diverse understanding of STEM education including the definitions, goals, and ways to design and enact integrated STEM lessons will be discussed. Specifically, the meriSTEM@NIE problem-, solution-, and user-centric models of the S-T-E-M Quartet Instructional Framework will be discussed. The course will be delivered in English and Mandarin.

 本课程将提供STEM教育的入门理念。课程将探讨STEM教育的多元理解,包括定义、目标以及设计和实施整合型STEM课程的方法。具体而言,我们将探讨S-T-E-M四重奏教学框架中meriSTEM@NIE的以问题、解决方案和用户为中心的模式。课程将以英语和普通话授课。

By the end of this course, participants should be able to:

  •  Provide a coherent definition of STEM education that aligns with their purposes and beliefs.
  • Discuss the different purposes of STEM education according to macro, meso, and micro goals.
  • Describe different concepts of integrated STEM education.
  • Discuss the three centricities of STEM education in the S-T-E-M Quartet framework.

The course will cover the following areas:

Teo Tang Wee

Teo Tang Wee is an Associate Professor in the Natural Sciences and Science Education Academic Department at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. She is Co-Head of the Multi-centric Education, Research and Industry STEM Centre (meriSTEM@NIE), focusing on equity, inclusivity, and gender issues in STEM education. Her work includes research and teacher professional development initiatives across ASEAN, India, and China, supporting STEM educators through international collaborations and contextualized capacity-building programmes. She also serves in editorial roles for several regional academic journals.
