Teachers' Language Development (TLD) Courses

The Teachers' Language Development (TLD) suite of courses aims to enhance the academic development of student teachers at NIE by focusing on improving their academic discourse skills and upgrading their subject content knowledge. Additionally, they support the professional development of student teachers by enhancing communication skills and pronunciation for delivery of disciplinary content.

The TLD suite of courses at NIE comprises the following:
        - Language Enhancement and Academic Discourse Skills (LEADS) courses
        - Certificate in English Language Studies (CELS) courses
        - English Language Content Enhancement (ELCE) courses

a) The LEADS modules
     PGDE programme

  • Basics of Pronunciation for Teachers
  • Professional Communication for Teachers 

     Degree programme

  • Academic Discourse Skills
  • Communication Skills for Teachers

     Diploma programme

  • English for Academic and Professional Purposes
  • Communication Skills for Teachers 

 

b) The CELS modules
     (for student teachers taking English as a Curriculum Studies (CS) subject in the  
    DipEd and BA/BSc (Primary) programmes)

c)  The ELCE modules
     (for student teachers on the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) taking
    English as a Curriculum Studies (CS) subject)
     The ELCE courses will run from 23 Nov to 29 Nov & 3 Dec to 13 Dec 2026, over a period of 12 days. During this period of asynchronous online learning, student teachers are expected to complete various compulsory learning modules and tasks. These will be tracked by tutors. Details on the courses will be provided on the learning portal upon enrolment into the courses.)
