Ms Vanessa Goh
Ms Vanessa Goh started her career in education as a Secondary School teacher. She was subsequently posted to the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) as a Senior Early Childhood Officer. As a member of the Professional Development Department, Vanessa contributed to improving career and professional development opportunities for early childhood educators through the conceptualisation and implementation of several policies and programmes, including the Skills Framework for Early Childhood Care and Education, the Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Leadership, the Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching & Learning, and the ECDA Fellows Programme. Before joining NIE as a Teaching Fellow, Vanessa served as a Subject Head in a Primary School where she designed and implemented a three-phrase approach to help improve the transition practices in the school.
Dr Patricia Ho See Mei
Patricia is an experienced educator who teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She specialises in preparing future teachers by sharing practical knowledge drawn from her extensive experience in various school settings. With years of experience in teaching, middle management, and working with students with special educational needs, Patricia brings a wealth of knowledge to her lessons. She also conducts professional development programs for current teachers, helping them enhance their skills and stay updated with the latest educational practices. Her professional journey includes roles within the Ministry of Education, specifically in the Special Education Branch and the Curriculum Planning and Development Division. Patricia's academic interests focus on the education of students with special educational needs in mainstream schools, enhancing special education and best practices in special schools.
Dr Lim Luck Siew
Luck Siew teaches courses in the Diploma in Special Education programme. She has taught in special school and mainstream schools. She has also worked in the Ministry of Education, Preschool and Special Education Branch. Her interest includes teaching students with learning difficulties in mainstream schools, provision of special education for children with disabilities and best practices in special schools. She is currently a teaching fellow with NIE and her research focuses on students with learning difficulties in mathematics.
Dr Ow Yeong Wai Mang
Dr Elizabeth Ow Yeong has taught in the mainstream school system for the past 25 years. She has served as HOD (Student Well-being), amongst other appointments. Currently seconded to the National Institute of Education, she focuses on training pre-service teachers, allied educators for learning and behavioural support, as well as in-service teachers in the area of special needs. Her research interests include special needs education in mainstream schools and constructivist teaching approaches. In 2017, Dr Ow Yeong was awarded the President’s Award for Teachers for her services to education.
Mrs Karen Selvarajan
Mrs Karen Selvarajan has taught in the mainstream school system for the past 25 years. She has served as a Lead Teacher (Special Educational Needs) and (Educational Support) before that. As Chairperson of the SEN Network in her school cluster, she has championed collaboration across schools, developed resources for educators and families, and led efforts in promoting Executive Function Skills (EFS) as a core strategy in student support. In recognition of her impact, she has received several awards, including the 2022 Associate of AST Award, 2018 AWWA Inspiring Teacher Award, MOE Service Excellence Award, and the Caring Teacher Award. Currently seconded to the National Institute of Education, she focuses on training pre-service teachers, Special Educational Needs Officers as well as in-service teachers. She remains committed to empowering teachers and continues to shape inclusive education practices in meaningful and impactful ways.
Mr Tan Ying Kiat
Mr Tan Ying Kiat is a Teaching Fellow with the Psychology Studies Academic Group, National Institute of Education. He has worked in primary school education, spending most of his time facilitating gifted learners. As an In-house counsellor, he has also assisted learners with various learning and social-emotional challenges the best he can. He desires to change the world – one learner at a time, beginning with himself.
Mr Dawa Tshering Sherpa
Mr. Dawa Tshering Sherpa is deeply passionate about education and strongly advocates for lifelong learning. He currently teaches modules on pedagogies and assessment to postgraduate diploma educators, SPED educators, and Special Educational Needs Officers. Before joining NIE, he served as the Head of Educational Support/Special Educational Needs at a secondary school, where he managed programmes and initiatives focussed on special educational needs, counselling, and other high-need areas. Prior to this role, he was also posted to the Academy of Singapore Teachers where he contributed to the professional growth of educators as an academy officer. With over a decade of experience collaborating with various stakeholders in schools and communities, he is now eager to embark on the next phase of his journey, focussing on research and practice.
Ms Yeo Young Muay, Jemima
Jemima started her career as a primary school teacher. She has taught at different levels and has spent a good number of years in the lower primary. In the schools, she had held the positions of Head of Department for English, as well as Head of Department for Curriculum and Assessment. In the latter, she worked with department heads across the different disciplines to set the standards and provide the structures and processes at the systemic level, especially in aspects pertaining to assessment practices. In her stint at MOE HQ as a senior officer in the Pre-school Education Branch, she was involved in the research and writing of the Nurturing Early Learners Framework, and the accreditation process of the training providers in the early childhood sector. When the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) was formed, she was seconded as a manager to the Professional Development Department, leading a group of dedicated officers as they worked with the polytechnics and training providers to uplift the early childhood sector through quality training programmes, continuing professional development opportunities, and career progression.
