SoLEC International Advisory Panel (IAP) 2025

The Science of Learning in Education Centre (SoLEC) at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, was honoured to host the International Advisory Panel (IAP) from 13 to 15 October 2025.
Chaired by Professor Bruce McCandliss (Stanford Graduate School of Education), the panel also included distinguished members Professor Allison Littlejohn (University College London), Professor Carol Chan Kwai Kuen (The University of Hong Kong), and Professor George Augustine (Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory).
Over the three-day engagement, the IAP provided expert insights and strategic guidance to strengthen SoLEC’s research direction and impact. The visit featured meetings with NIE leadership and the Ministry of Education, tour of SoLEC’s research facilities, and in-depth discussions on SoLEC’s three research foci: Metacognition, Regulation, and Well-being.
Panel members also interacted with SoLEC researchers through presentations on ongoing and proposed projects, covering topics such as wearable technologies in education, neurocognitive insights on geometric reasoning, and the use of multimodal signals to study engagement and emotion.
The engagement culminated in a final presentation and closing session, where the IAP shared its reflections on SoLEC’s achievements and recommendations for future directions. These insights will contribute to SoLEC’s continued development and alignment with NIE’s and MOE’s strategic goals.
SoLEC extends its sincere appreciation to the IAP members and participating researchers for their valuable contributions toward advancing the Science of Learning in education.
