SGA-SoL Symposium
On the 12th of September 2025 at the National Institute of Education (NIE), the Strategic Growth Area-Science of Learning (SGA-SoL) Symposium titled “Nurturing Minds: Fostering Holistic Well-Being through the Science of Learning” convened over 200 participants from across Singapore and beyond international waters, including representatives from the Ministry of Education (MOE), National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and other institutes of higher learning. Hosted by the Science of Learning in Education Centre (SoLEC) at NIE-NTU, the full-day event featured a dynamic programme that wove together interactive poster sessions, exhibition booths, hands-on workshops, and compelling keynote addresses. The symposium opened with inspiring talks by Professor Richard Davidson from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the United States of America, Associate Professor Nagaendran Kandiah from the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and Dr Imelda Caleon from SoLEC, NIE-NTU, explored themes of flourishing, well-being, and learning, and included a rich panel discussion bringing together policy, neuroscience and educational perspectives. In the afternoon, participants could choose from concurrent workshops — such as “Becoming a Science of Learning Practitioner” and “Nurturing Well-Being Through Drama” — or attend seminars bridging research and classroom practice. Throughout the day, the poster sessions and exhibition booths sparked lively dialogue and fostered cross-institutional connections, making the symposium a truly collaborative platform for the science of learning community.
