HSSE 'Brown Bag' Seminar - SLL Sustainability Talks Series
On 9 April 2025, Melissa Low, a Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore's (NUS) Centre for Nature-based Climate Solutions and Head of the Sustainability Academy, was invited to the NIE to speak at the first SLL Sustainability Talk Series. She delivered a clear and engaging overview of the Paris Agreement’s historical development and underlying mechanisms.
Melissa traced the diplomatic trajectory from the 1992 UNFCCC to the Kyoto Protocol, highlighting key milestones that laid the groundwork for the landmark COP21 accord in Paris. The presentation also examined the dynamics of COP negotiations and North–South relations that shape both the process and its outcomes.
A key focus of her talk was Singapore’s role in these developments, which she articulated succinctly, outlining the domestic and international significance of the city-state’s climate efforts.
The session sparked meaningful reflection on global climate governance and Singapore’s place in shaping a sustainable future.
