Centre for Assessment & Evaluation (CAE): Redesigning Pedagogy International Conference (RPIC) 2026

The Centre for Assessment and Evaluation (CAE) organised three symposium presentations at the recent Redesigning Pedagogy International Conference (RPIC) 2026, held from 2 to 4 June 2026 at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The symposiums reflected the Centre’s commitment to advancing assessment and evaluation research, strengthening professional practice, and supporting evidence-informed educational improvement.

Symposium: Rethinking Assessment for Well-Being

The team consisting of Dr Chue Kah Loong Chue, Asst/P Amirhossein Rasooli, Dr Kiren Kaur d/o Ratan Singh, Dr Tay Hui Yong and Dr Khuc Phan (WERA Visiting Researcher 2025) participated in the symposium, "Rethinking Assessment for Well-Being", under the Assessment strand. The symposium examined the important relationship between assessment practices and students’ emotional experiences, well-being and learning. It highlighted how thoughtfully designed and enacted assessment can foster positive emotions, competence, accomplishment and social support, while poorly aligned or high-stakes practices may increase anxiety and undermine students’ confidence.

Drawing on three complementary studies from Singapore, the symposium considered how leadership, classroom assessment practices and students’ emotion regulation shape the lived experience of assessment in schools. The presentations explored the implementation of holistic assessment across primary schools, teachers’ perspectives on how assessment influences students’ emotions, and students’ responses to teacher, peer and generative AI-mediated feedback. Collectively, the symposium called for more human-centered assessment systems that place student well-being at the core.

Workshop: Illuminating Pathways in Assessment and Evaluation

CAE also led a workshop, "Illuminating Pathways in Assessment and Evaluation" on 3 June 2026. Facilitated by A/P Chong Wan Har, Dr Chue Kah Loong, A/P Nie Youyan, Asst/P Amelia Yeo, Asst/P Amirhossein Rasooli, Dr Kiren Kaur and Dr Tay Hui Yong, the session introduced participants to CAE’s vision, signature research themes and programmes.

Positioning CAE as a lighthouse guiding educators, researchers and policymakers through the evolving landscape of assessment and evaluation, the workshop provided an overview of the Centre’s work in thought leadership, knowledge production and professional collaboration. Participants were invited to hear how CAE supports multiple stakeholders in co-creating new knowledge and practices for meaningful, evidence-informed assessment and evaluation. An important highlight is the development of a hub, anchored by A/P Nie Youyan, on the use of international large-scale databases on assessment and evaluation to inform practice and policy of application to the Asia-Pacific region.

Symposium: Implementing Rapid Cycle Evaluation for Educational Improvement

The Rapid Cycle Evaluation (RCE) team, Asst/P Amelia Yeo, Dr Ethan Wong, A/P Chong Wan Har and Dr Tan Chee Soon, together with educators from Peicai Secondary School and Rainbow Centre contributed to the symposium, "From Theory to Practice: Implementing Rapid Cycle Evaluation for Educational Improvement in Diverse Learning Contexts", under the School Change and Leadership strand. The symposium addressed the need for responsive and timely evaluation approaches that can support continuous improvement in real-time in educational settings.

Centered on Rapid Cycle Evaluation (RCE), an iterative methodology that prioritises actionable feedback and contextual responsiveness, the symposium featured three interconnected papers that moved from conceptualisation to implementation. The first paper presented a scoping review of RCE literature and proposed a practice-oriented framework for educational contexts. The subsequent papers demonstrated the application of RCE in two Singapore settings: special education schools implementing Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ACC), and a mainstream secondary school strengthening its Applied Learning Programme (APL).

Together, the presentations illustrated how RCE can provide structured and actionable feedback loops that builds teachers’ data literacy, and help schools refine programme implementation in real time. The symposium was especially relevant for educational researchers, school leaders, programme evaluators and teachers interested in evidence-based approaches to continuous improvement.

Through these contributions, CAE reaffirmed its role in advancing impactful research and professional learning in assessment and evaluation. The Centre looks forward to continuing collaborations with schools, educators, researchers and policymakers to strengthen assessment and evaluation practices that support learning, well-being and educational improvement.
