Asst Prof Yang Peidong Publishes in Pedagogies: An International Journal

Asst Prof Yang Peidong, from NIE’s Humanities & Social Studies Education Academic Group, has published an article in Pedagogies: An International Journal based on findings from his project “Singapore Secondary School Teachers' Experiences with Implementing Social Studies Issues Investigation: An Exploratory Study”

The paper, titled “Interpreting inquiry learning in social studies: Singapore secondary school teachers’ understandings of “Issue Investigation”—a preliminary study” discusses inquiry-based learning in social studies, and how teachers interpret this in Singapore classrooms. Findings suggest two broad conceptions: working out practical solutions to societal issues in the spirit of participative citizenship or a social science inquiry process to foster critical and analytical thinking.
