The Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) Academic Group (AG) is a vibrant academic group at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. We started as the College of PE in the year 1984, transited to School of PE in 1991, and established PESS AG in 2000. We have evolved over the years in response to the changing landscape in PE, sport science, and sport management to stay relevant. However, our commitment and dedication in delivering high quality training and education for pre-service and in-service teachers, and sport science and sport management undergraduates in Singapore remain unchanged. At PESS AG, we have developed a clear vision to be the leading teacher-training and research centre for PE, sport science, and sport management in the region and beyond. Our mission is to develop trainee teachers in areas of competence and expertise in teaching PE as a major subject, and undergraduates who will be contributing in the sports industry. We have a group of dedicated and committed faculty members, with diverse backgrounds and expertise to deliver quality academic programmes, and provide quality learning environment and experience for our students.
The Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) Academic Group of the National Institute of Education offers a variety of programmes in teacher education specialising in physical education.
PESS AG aims to develop student teachers in areas of professional competence and expertise in teaching physical education as a major subject.
The three initial teacher preparation programmes not only provide theoretical and practical courses in Physical Education, but also the knowledge and skills for student teachers to teach other academic school subjects.
In addition, there are also graduate programmes and in-service courses offered to PE teachers and educators in related fields who would like to enhance their career and research.
