儿时患学习障碍　教师将心比心用趣味方式教语法获奖

Lianhe Zaobao featured the story of a 27-year-old teacher Ms Natasha Lin Kleinman, who overcame learning barriers during primary school with the encouragement and support from her mother and teachers through various creative teaching methods such as self-composed ballads and jingles which helped enhance her memory in her studies. Natasha, who graduated from NIE NTU, is currently teaching English in Xishan Primary School. She shared that she was often mistaken for being lazy when she was young, therefore she can understand the challenges faced by students who are slower in learning and hence is committed to teaching grammar creatively, such as the use of puppets. The virtual Teachers' Investiture Ceremony for the 951 new and inservice teachers who had completed training at NIE could not be held in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Education Minister, Mr Lawrence Wong spoke at the virtual ceremony on 4 February 2021 that the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the importance for schools to prepare students for a more volatile and uncertain future.  He emphasised that besides equipping students with knowledge, teachers should instill in them competencies, values and develop them into self-directed learners.  The article noted that with Singapore's mainstream education gradually implementing a hybrid model that combines home-based and classroom learning, NIE would further integrate face-to-face learning and online teaching.
