Professor Chen Wenli’s Team Wins Best Paper Award at GCCCE 2026

Professor Chen Wenli from the Office for Research and the Learning Sciences and Assessment (LSA) Department, together with her PhD students Hou Xinmeng, Zheng Lishan, Su Guo, Chen Xuanyu and Lyu Qianru, has received the Best Paper Award at the 30th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE 2026). The conference was held from 30 May to 3 June 2026 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Established in 1997, GCCCE is a leading annual conference in educational technology. This year’s conference brought together scholars, educators, and policymakers from around the world under the theme “Education in the Age of AI: Opportunities, Boundaries, and Capabilities.”

The award-winning paper, “Impact of AI Support with Different Levels of Learner Agency on Behavioral Engagement in Providing and Uptaking Peer Feedback,” aligns closely with this year’s theme. Prof Chen’s research team finetuned generative AI informed by learning sciences principles to influence students’ behavioral engagement and learning agency in peer feedback activities. The findings suggest that AI is most effective when it acts as an intellectual partner by providing adaptive scaffolding in the learning process. By contrast, AI systems that simply provide answers may reduce learners’ engagement and weaken their sense of agency.
