வாழ்க்கை வழிகாட்டிகளாக வழிநடத்திய ஆசிரியப் பெருமக்கள்

Reports noted that The Most Inspiring Tamil Teachers (MITT) Award Ceremony was held on 18/9. Jointly organised by Tamil Murasu and the Tamil Language and Learning Promotion Committee (TLLPC), the MITT awards, Lifetime Achievement Awards, and the Best NIE trainee award were presented at the event. Reports noted that Minister was the guest-of-honour at the event, and in his speech, he spoke about the challenges faced by Tamil teachers to create a Tamil-speaking environment beyond the classroom. Minister added that MOE was working with various social partners to help Tamil teachers.

Reports featured Lifetime Achievement Awardee, 67-year-old Dr A Ra Sivakumaran, who worked as head of the Tamil Department at NIE. As the first to publish a Tamil Journal for Nanyang Technological University, he became the first recipient of a PhD in Singapore for research in local Tamil Literature. He also conducted a two-month workshop for NIE Tamil language learning students with the support of the National Arts Council. He shared that he hoped all Tamil teachers were able to excel in all subjects and languages to be inspiring Tamil teachers. Another recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award was 76-year-old Mr K Chandramoorthy. He started his career at St George's Tamil School in 1964. He worked as the football coach at East View High School, and was the joint treasurer of the Singapore Tamil Teachers’ Union in 1992, finally retiring from the teaching profession in 2009 at Raffles Girls' School. The final Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, 63-year-old Dr Tamilaras Subramaniam, started her career at Anglo-Chinese School in the 1980s. At the age of 58, she received her doctorate from the University of Madras. After retiring from AST as a Principal Teacher, she has worked as a lecturer at NIE.
