Research Scientist Kenneth Y T Lim Publishes in the British Journal of Educational Technology

Dr Kenneth Y T Lim, Research Scientist at the Office of Education Research, has published a paper on Augmented Reality, Memory, and History Education in the British Journal of Educational Technology (BJET). BJET has an impact factor of 2.588.

Titled ‘Semiotics, memory and augmented reality: History education with learner-generated augmentation’, the paper describes a unique approach to pedagogical design using Augmented Reality, which Dr Lim first published about in 2018. In this paper, Dr Lim and his co-author Ryan Lim (a Teaching Scholar studying at the Humanities and Social Studies Education Academic Group of NIE), translated Dr Lim’s approach of Learner-Generated Augmentation from its original domain of Chemistry Education to the very different field of History Education. In doing so, Dr Lim and Ryan demonstrated the flexibility of Learner-Generated Augmentation as an approach to designing learning environments with Augmented Reality.

They describe from a theoretically grounded perspective on how their approach can be applied to other contexts of learning, complementing the well-known memory strategy known as the Memory Palace (sometimes known as the Method of Loci).
