New Education Normal Webinar Series: Sparking a multilevel learning epidemic through action-oriented research during COVID-19

The last webinar in the New Education Normal Webinar Series for 2020 took place on 30 November 2020. Prof Nancy Law, Professor in the Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong, spoke on “Sparking a multilevel learning epidemic through action-oriented research during COVID-19”.

Due to COVID-19, schools in Hong Kong have experienced the longest period of school suspension to date by far. With the goal of enhancing comprehensive capacities to improve education opportunities, digital competence, and student well-being through action-oriented research, Prof Law and team embarked on a comprehensive 360-degree survey study called “eCitizen Education 360”.

Survey responses were collected from a total of 53 schools, with over 550 school leaders, 790 teachers, 1300 parents, and 6300 students from primary, secondary, and special schools who participated in the study. Prof Law took the webinar attendees through the background of the study, key findings that were published, and the implications and recommendations for different stakeholders.

The session wrapped up with a question and answer segment moderated by Dr Wong Lung Hsiang, Co-programme Director of the Learning Sciences and Innovation Research Programme and Senior Research Scientist at the Office of Education Research. This session was attended by almost 60 people.
