New Education Normal: Going Beyond Technology—Transformative Learning and e-Pedagogy

On 4 May 2021, the New Education Normal webinar series hosted a panel discussion on “Going Beyond Technology—Transformative Learning and e-Pedagogy”. The panel brought school leaders, teachers, education researchers and policymakers together to discuss the topic through the lens of Knowledge Building (KB), and the panel was moderated by Assoc Prof Tan Seng Chee, Assoc Dean (Higher Degrees), Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning, NIE.

The panelists were:

  • Dr Teo Chew Lee, Senior Research Scientist, Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice, NIE
  • Mr N Sivarajan, Principal, Teck Whye Secondary School
  • Mr Melvin Chan, Senior Teacher (History), Teck Whye Secondary School
  • Mr Andy Ng, Head of Department (Gifted Education), St. Hilda’s Primary School
  • Mr Samuel Tan, Senior Specialist, Education Technology Division, MOE

Panelists discussed the transformative use of technology, knowledge co-construction, and e-pedagogy. The discussion centered on how schools can leverage on the affordances of technology in Singapore schools. The panel also introduced the KB software, known as the Knowledge Forum, which can be used in Singapore classrooms to enhance self-initiated thinking and learning.

After a lively question and answer segment moderated by Assoc Prof Tan, attendees were treated to a video recording from Prof Marlene Scardamalia, President of Knowledge Building International, at the end of the webinar. The session was attended by approximately 190 people from across the world.
