Ibu bapa perlu berbahasa Melayu bagi dorong anak cakap Melayu: Pakar

BH noted that according to senior lecturer Dr Mohamed Aidil Subhan, it was not enough for mothers to speak with their children in Malay and fathers to speak with their children in English. To encourage their children to use Malay, both parents need to use Malay when communicating with their children. This is because language learning begins with listening. Speaking at the Sustainable Scholars Series organised by Warisan Melayu Foundation on 11 September, Dr Mohamed cited the 2020 Population Census which noted that the percentage of children aged five to 14 who regularly spoke English at home increased from 9.4 per cent in 2000 to 25.8 per cent in 2010 and 63 per cent in 2020. Dr Aidil predicted the percentage would continue to rise by 2065 and said this showed a gap in language learning at home.
