Dr Khor Ean Teng co-publishes a journal article and speaks at the 32nd International Conference on Computers in Education 2024

Dr Khor Ean Teng, Education Research Scientist from the Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP), co-published a journal article titled “Predictive Analytics for Student Online Learning Performance Using Machine Learning and Data Mining Techniques” in the International Journal on E-Learning, a forum that facilitates the international exchange of information on the current research, development, and practice of e-learning in these sectors. The study presents a transformative paradigm for enhancing educational outcomes through data-driven decision-making. It highlights the potential of machine learning to revolutionize education by enabling early identification and support for underperforming students. The findings open avenues for further research and practical applications, underscoring the pivotal role of technology in shaping the future of education.

Dr Khor was also invited to speak at the 32nd International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE 2024), organised by the Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education (APSCE) and hosted by the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) from 25th to 29th November 2024. She shared her work on “Student Perceptions of Using Generative AI Chatbot in Learning Programming”, which explores the factors shaping how Singapore secondary school computing students perceive the use of MyBotBuddy, a Generative AI-driven chatbot, as a programming aid. Through thematic analysis, key influences were identified, including the chatbot's reliability, utility, cognitive effort required, and its ability to foster satisfaction and enjoyment. The findings contribute to the growing body of literature on the role of Generative AI-driven chatbots in supporting secondary school computing education and provide valuable insights to inform the effective development and implementation of such tools in classroom settings.
