Asst Prof Lim Fei Victor Publishes Two Journal Articles on Multimodality

Asst Prof Lim Fei Victor, from NIE’s English Language and Literature Academic Group (ELL) has published two journal articles on multimodality. These publications were based on findings from Asst Prof Lim’s project on “Integrating Multiliteracies into the English Language Classroom: Developing an Instructional Approach to Teach Multimodal Literacy (Critical Viewing and Effective Representing of Multimodal Texts)”.

The first article, published in the ELT Journal is titled “Design-based research approach for teacher learning: a case study from Singapore” and co-authored with Dr Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, ELL Research Fellow. It describes how a design-based research approach brought about teacher learning, in terms of both confidence and competence, to design and enact a multiliteracies lesson package. Findings suggest that the design-based research approach can be productive in bringing about deeper and more reflective teacher learning, and can be a platform to strengthen the research-practice nexus.

Asst Prof Lim’s second article, co-authored by Dr Toh Weimin, former ELL Research Fellow, is titled “Let’s play together: ways of parent–child digital co-play for learning”. The paper, published in Interactive Learning Environments, reports findings from a project study to understand the different ways of parent-child digital co-play and how they can offer opportunities for the child’s learning, and offers suggestions on how children can learn through communication with their parents in-game, be it sharing their knowledge of the game, or leading the co-play.
