Assoc Prof Suzanne Choo Publishes Paper and Delivers Keynote
Assoc Prof Suzanne Choo, English Language and Literature Academic Group (ELL) and Asst Dean (Degree) at the Office of Teacher Education (OTE), NIE, has published a paper and given a keynote based on findings from her project “Cultivating Cosmopolitan Virtues through Critical, Aesthetic and Ethical Engagements with Literature”.
Assoc Prof Choo’s paper, titled “The challenge of cultivating national and cosmopolitan identities through Literature: Insights from Singapore schools”, is published in Reading Research Quarterly, and is co-authored by Dr Chua Bee Leng, OTE Assoc Dean (Professional Practice) and Dr Dennis Yeo, ELL Lecturer. On 31 July 2021, Assoc Prof Choo was invited to give a keynote at the 3rd Singapore Literature Conference 2021. Titled “Reading and writing from the viewpoint of ethics”, her keynote discussed ethical criticism, a key movement in literary studies in the 21st century, and how this has helped facilitate greater empathy amongst students.
