Assoc Prof Suzanne Choo Contributes Essay on Cultivating Virtues and Presents at Conference

Assoc Prof Suzanne Choo at NIE’s English Language and Literature Academic Group (ELL AG) and Assistant Dean in the Office of Teacher Education, was invited to contribute an essay as part of a collective project titled "Reimagining the new pedagogical possibilities for universities post-Covid-19". This project was led by Prof Michael Peters and Prof Fazal Rizvi for the journal Educational Philosophy and Theory.

The essay arose from her research on “Cultivating Cosmopolitan Virtues through Critical, Aesthetic and Ethical Engagements with Literature Pubs”. In her essay titled "The significance of border ethics in a time of pandemic", Assoc Prof Choo highlighted that the current pandemic has surfaced anti-globalisation sentiments, and it is beneficial to have discussions on these sentiments so as to cultivate cosmopolitan virtues in the education system.

Assoc Prof Choo was also invited to present at the AATE/IFTE ‘If’ 2020 Conference, together with Dr Dennis Yeo, Lecturer from ELL AG. The conference was held from 6 to 10 July 2020 and was organised by the International Federation for the Teaching of English (IFTE) and the Australian Association for the Teaching of English (AATE). Both Assoc Prof Choo and Dr Yeo presented papers at a roundtable on “English around the world” and a panel on “Standardised testing”.
