Sport Science & Management (SSM) - FAQ
1. What is the SSM programme?
The SSM programme is a 4-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree focusing on the scientific principles behind exercise and the human body along with the management of sport organisations. It is the only sport degree offered by a local autonomous university designed to train and develop professionals to enter and serve the sport industry in Singapore and the region.
2. What course of study will I follow for this programme?
Year 1 of the programme serves as your foundation year, during which you will complete core courses in both Sport Science and Sport Management. In Years 2 and 3, you will transition into specialised pathways: High-Performance Sport, Fitness & Health and Sport Management. You have the flexibility to choose courses within a single discipline or across different pathways. In Year 4, Semester 1, you will undertake a Final Year Project (FYP) in a research area of your choice. In Year 4 Semester 2, you will complete a 20-week internship.
You are also required to complete a range of Interdisciplinary Collaborative Core (ICC) courses that broaden your education at NTU, along with a small portion of courses known as Broadening & Deepening Electives (BDE), which allow you to explore diverse topics offered across various schools at NTU.
3. What are the job prospects with this degree?
The SSM programme qualifies individuals to work in all areas of the sport industry. For those in Sport Science, areas include Adapted Physical Activity, Coaching and Performance Analysis, Corporate Health and Wellness programmes, Exercise Prescription and Rehabilitation in hospitals, Health Promotion, Physical Education, Sport Injury Management and Rehabilitation, Sport Science Support, Strength and Conditioning, and Workplace Health and Safety. Sport Management areas include Human Resource Management in Sport, Management of Sport Organisations, Public Relations in Sport, Sport Analytics, Sport Broadcasting and Journalism, Sport Event Management, Sport Facilities Management, Sport Marketing and Sales, Sport Research and Business, Sport Sponsorship and Advertising, and Sport Tourism.
4. What are the salaries of the graduates?

5. Does this programme qualify me to be a Physiotherapist?
No, individuals who undertake this programme are not qualified to be Physiotherapists. However, students who complete the SSM degree can go on to complete a postgraduate degree in physiotherapy in Australia and some other countries. For individuals wishing to pursue a direct BSc (Honours) undergraduate in physiotherapy, they should approach Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).
6. What post-graduate programmes can I pursue with this programme?
This degree programme is recognised globally and qualifies individuals to pursue postgraduate studies in Sport Science or Sport Management. In addition, some past students have also gone on to study postgraduate degrees in other science-related fields (e.g., physiotherapy, medicine, veterinary science).

12. Are there opportunities for international exchange with this programme?
Yes, all NTU students have the opportunity to pursue exchange programmes ranging in length from 2 weeks to an entire semester. Please click this link for more information on exchange programmes. In addition, SSM organises its own short Study Immersion Trips for students to visit and view sport organisations and facilities in other countries. Countries visited to date include Australia, Denmark, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and the USA.
13. Are there any scholarships available for this programme?
SSM offers a unique award, the E.W. Barker Scholarship, exclusively to a handful of students to pursue their studies within the programme each year. The E.W. Barker Scholarship provides full coverage of tuition fees per annum to each scholar awarded.There are also the Nanyang Global Scholarship, Nanyang Merit Scholarship and NTU Talent Scholarship on offer.
