Teachers' Investiture Ceremony FAQ

1. Is my attendance at the Teachers’ Investiture Ceremony (TIC) compulsory?

Yes, attendance is compulsory.

If you are unable to attend the ceremony, please submit a copy of your medical certificate or supporting documentation for your absence to SL@nie.edu.sg by 10 July 2026.

3. How many guests can I invite to the TIC?

Each graduand may invite two guests to the TIC. You do not need to register or purchase any tickets for your guests.

4. Can I invite more than two guests to the TIC?

While each graduand is officially allocated two guest seats in the main theatre, we are happy to share that you are welcome to bring one additional guest.

In most cases, we do have extra seats available in the main hall to accommodate additional guests. However, in the event that seats are limited, your additional guest may be directed to our viewing gallery, where the ceremony will be streamed live and comfortably arranged for guests to enjoy the proceedings.

5. “Each graduand may invite two guests to the TIC” – Is my school principal considered as one of my guests?

Your school principal will be invited separately by the Institute, and is not counted within the two guests quota that graduands can invite to the TIC.

You may still wish to inform your school principal and invite him/her personally to witness the ceremony.

6. Are my guests assigned seats?

Seating for guests will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. Kindly ensure that all members of your group are present before entering the auditorium, as seat reservations are not allowed. Please follow the ushers’ directions at the Nanyang Auditorium.

7. Can I bring children to the TIC?

Infants in arms and children below 6 years old will not be admitted into the theatre. The ceremony is a formal and lengthy event, which can be unsuitable for infants and young children. Guests with infants or young children are invited to view the ceremony from the Viewing Gallery, where a live broadcast of the ceremony will be available.

8. Are there special seating arrangements for guests (e.g. wheelchair users or on crutches)?

Yes, designated seating areas are catered for guests who are wheelchair-users or on crutches. Please approach the staff at the registration booth for assistance. Ushers will assist guests to designated seating areas in the Auditorium.

Alternatively, guests may choose to watch the TIC livestream at the viewing gallery, located next to the registration booths (outside the auditorium).

9. When should my guests be seated? What if my guests do not arrive after I have entered the theatre or after the ceremony has started?

Guests must be seated in the theatre at least 15 minutes before the start of the ceremony.

Once the ceremony has started, late-arriving guests will be allowed to enter only at an appropriate time and guided to the nearest available seats in the theatre (if seats are still available). Kindly note that seat reservations are not allowed.

10. What is the dress code for graduates?

Graduates must be properly attired as befits the occasion. Do note that any graduate found inappropriately dressed will not be permitted to attend the ceremony.

• No casual pants/jeans, t-shirts, polo shirts, shorts, culottes, Bermudas
• No slippers, sneakers, canvas shoes, sports shoes, open-toe sandals and open-toe shoes/heels

Traditional Clothes:

You may wear traditional attire (e.g., saree); however, it is mandatory to be fully attired in academic gown to attend the TIC.

11. What is the dress code for guests?

As the TIC is a solemn and formal event, guests should be dressed appropriately as befits the occasion. Please note that T-shirts, shorts, slippers, or sandals are inappropriate attire.

12. When can I collect my certificate and transcript if I did not attend the TIC?

For Diploma and PGDE graduands who did not attend the TIC, the official documents will be available for collection at the NIE Student Services Centre (SSC) from August onwards (on an appointment basis).

Graduands who are unable to collect the certificate and/or official transcript personally at the NIE Student Services Centre (SSC) may authorize a proxy to collect on their behalf. The proxy must complete the form available at https://www.ntu.edu.sg/nie/student-life/student-services-centre/requests, and present it at the point of collection.

13. Where is the nearest drop off point?

Please utilise the designated drop-off area located in front of Tan Chin Tuan Lecture Theatre, for drop-offs and pick-ups. Kindly note that the drop-off area should only be utilised for its intended purpose and not for parking or waiting.

14. Where is the nearest wheelchair-accessible drop off point?

The nearest wheelchair-accessible drop-off point is located at the open area adjacent to the NTU Nanyang Auditorium. Please note that this area is strictly for drop-off purposes only and should not be used for waiting.
