Neighbourhood police centres (NPCs) in commercial areas saw more crime last year than those in residential areas, with Orchard NPC topping the list, government figures show. Criminologist Olivia Choy, from NTU’s psychology department, said there are more opportunities to commit crimes such as outrage of modesty in commercial areas, as they are heavily populated with venues such as shopping malls. Another reason, she added, is a well-established phenomenon in criminology called the age-crime curve, which charts the aggregate offending rate.
