NTU’s College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CoHASS) congratulates faculty members from our College who have been recognised in this year’s Nanyang Awards, celebrating excellence in their education, research, and humanitarian service. These awards honour outstanding contributions that exemplify NTU’s spirit of innovation, dedication, and societal impact.
NANYANG EDUCATION AWARD
Recognising educators who integrate research with inspiring pedagogy, mentorship, and curriculum leadership to elevate student learning.
College Award
Prof Lee Chei Sian, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information
A leading scholar of technology-mediated learning and online information behaviour. Her teaching draws from her cutting-edge work on digital communication and information behaviour, equipping students to critically examine the role of information and technology in society.
School Awards
Dr Benjamin Slater, School of Art, Design and Media
A writer and critic who specialises in narrative media, Dr. Slater encourages students to express their personal responses, learn through collaboration and explore the many possibilities of storytelling.
A/P Emma Flatt, History, School of Humanities
A historian of early modern South Asia, A/P Flatt’s research on courtly knowledge, material culture, and the politics of expertise informs her immersive, archive-based teaching that brings historical scholarship vividly into the classroom.
Asst/P Paul Victor Patinadan, Psychology, School of Social Sciences
Specialising in psychosocial care for end of life, grief, and bereavement, Asst/P Patinadan integrates psychological research with empathy-centred pedagogy. His courses challenge students to connect scientific understanding with compassion in practice.
Asst/P Kevin Chew, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information
A film and media scholar, Asst/P Chew blends animation studies, ecocriticism, and critical theory in his teaching, inspiring students to approach media as a lens for understanding history, culture and the environment.
NANYANG RESEARCH AWARD
Recognising research that advances a field through impactful publications, innovation, and international influence.
A/P Goh Geok Yian, History, School of Humanities
A historian-archaeologist of premodern Southeast Asia, A/P Goh’s work bridges historical texts and material culture. Her research has deepened understanding of the region’s heritage and positioned NTU as a leader in Southeast Asian archaeology.
A/P Saifuddin Ahmed, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (Young Investigator Award)
A rising scholar in communication science, A/P Ahmed studies misinformation, social media, and political communication. His pioneering multi-country research reveals how digital media shape public trust, information sharing, and democratic engagement.
NANYANG AWARD FOR HUMANITARIAN WORK
Honouring those who translate university expertise into meaningful service for communities in need.
Ms Li Shu Yun, Language and Communication Centre, School of Humanities
Ms Li has made significant contributions to language education and academic communication, supporting diverse learner communities and promoting inclusive education. Her outreach work exemplifies how academic expertise can empower lives beyond the classroom.
