国立教育学院调查： 相较电子书多数孩童倾向阅读纸本

A recent study, led by Dr Sun Baoqi, A/P Loh Chin Ee, and Dr Beth O’Brien, examined primary school children’s reading habits in English and their respective Mother Tongue languages. Eight primary schools took part in the study in 2020. Preliminary results showed children preferred reading English books over books in their Mother Tongue. To assist schools and parents in providing children with high-quality Mother Tongue reading materials, the team is working with National Library Board in developing booklists that are tailored to children's reading preferences and language abilities. Consistent with local research with adolescents, primary school children demonstrated a clear preference for print reading over reading digitally, even during Circuit Breaker when they had easy and increased access to technology. Having access to technology does not naturally lead to more reading online in either language. Children need to be carefully socialised and guided into using digital devices for reading.
