Record Number of Candidates for AGAB 2026 Reflects Rising Standards Among Malay Language Teachers

The 19th edition of the Anugerah Guru Arif Budiman (AGAB) 2026 received a record 422 nominations, the highest number in the award’s nearly 20-year history, surpassing the 396 nominations received in 2025. The increase reflects the growing quality and impact of Malay Language teachers in Singapore.

Eight teachers have been shortlisted as finalists across two categories: Perangsang (teachers with less than 10 years of service) and Teladan (teachers with 10 years or more of service). Beyond excellence in teaching, AGAB recognises educators who demonstrate the qualities of an Arif Budiman—teachers who contribute actively to the wider community and embody a deep understanding of Malay language, culture and values.

Speaking at the finalists’ briefing session held at the Ministry of Education, the AGAB Organising Committee highlighted the strong community involvement displayed by many nominees, including contributions to community organisations, cultural associations and Malay community initiatives.

The award continues to serve as an important platform for recognising the dedication and contributions of Malay Language teachers, whose work extends beyond the classroom to nurture cultural awareness, communication skills and community values among students.
